Details from The Aviation Herald:

Quote
An American Airlines Boeing 757-200, flight AA-769 from New York JFK,NY (USA) to San Juan (Puerto Rico) with 188 people on board, had just taken off runway 31L and was on the Canarsie climb, when the crew reported problems with their left engine and declared emergency. The crew levelled off at 3000 feet and decided to return immediately for an ILS approach runway 31L, landed safely about 13 minutes after takeoff and turned off the runway.

I mixed the ground activity in with the tower/approach, so timing might not be 100% accurate.

"A replacement Boeing 757-200 registration N606AA resumed the flight with a delay of 4 hours."

More engine problems for American Airlines...what is going on in the maintenance department?  undecided
