Not too exciting, but there's smoke in the cabin caused by a overheated battery...

There's nothing in the CZQM archive at 1630Z.  The incident starts at 24 minutes into the CZQM 1700 recording and finishes in the first 15 minutes of the CYQM 1730 archive.

Thanks to alltheway for the clip.  I will add the rest of the communications later and advise.
The passengers waited around for 7 hours or so until the replacement 777-200 arrived from KJFK.  They departed a little over 1.5 hours later and made their way to KORD.
I took some pictures of the battery pack that caused the problem. It's the little green box by the nose wheel.
I will be checking later today to see if the aircraft is still here.  It is quite a sight to see at our relatively small airport.  The airport hosted 12 large aircraft during the 911 crisis.
LiveATC got mentioned in the paper even though they got my last name wrong.  So the Feds won't be able to find me  :-D

So there was no smoke in the cabin? The pilot states in the audio that there is smoke in the cabin, didn't mentioned the cockpit though....

Ok, I must have missed that part.  I heard him say that there was smoke in the cockpit, but none "in the passenger area" or something to that effect.  They found the problem and disconnected the battery so the smoke was all dissapated when they landed.

Allright,

I finally was able to get all the audio.  It is posted in my first post.

I did hear cabin this time alltheway.  Something funny was that he was cleared for the approach, then handed off to tower.  Tower was surprised to have him so early and thought the pilot made an error and he wanted him to go back to center.

The audio is pretty uneventful, which is a good thing.

AAL47 had pwer ports... Shoot. I didn't know this when I flew it Jan 3 coming back from EGLL, for winter holiday. Oh well, I think this problem was also found on the 757, and 767, with Power ports. Thanks for the finding this.
