He's talking to Shanwick right? Souds like a British controller to me.

Don't really understand how all of these HF Centres work to be honest such as Gander and Shanwick

The major stations for control North Atlantic air traffic are Gander, New York, Shanwick and Santa Maria only.

From what I understand AF cant accept a new routing because its too long and they don't have enough fuel.

After everything, Santa Maria tells them to make the request to re-route with New York.

I don't know why Shanwick or Gander just told them that in the first place. sheesh!

From what I can decifer it seems a NYATC control sector was having 'frequency problems' (i.e., no radio) and all aircraft Eastbound into his sector were being vectored around it. Hence all the re-routing attempts for AF3548 to preclude having to refuel at Bermuda or Lages (Azores), which he obviously didn't want to do.

Man, that was painful. It's like being stuck in quick sand, slowly sinking. Vive la France.  afro
