Bird? No...Wind shear? No...Balloons?
« on: May 19, 2014, 04:54:04 PM »
Just heard a funny exchange between JFK TWR and TAM8082. It took place between 4:40pm and 4:50pm. If someone wants to pull the recording, it even contained a rare apology from JFK TWR.

Keep the recording going until 4:53 and you hear TWR tell a Delta Heavy that he claimed to be ready but really wasn't. The Delta told her that "it's a big airplane and takes a little while to get going but we are ready now".

Fun times at JFK

No problem Alpha, but the real credit goes to jbadger10 for hearing the exchange in the first place  8-)  He's the one who pointed out out exactly when this happened so it was easy to find!

I thought the exchange between the tower and Delta 262 was funnier. Either the Delta pilot needed more coffee or the controller needed to switch to decaf. haha

Well, the English wasn't all that bad.  Second time through I could understand him just fine. Problem is that ATC coms don't always get a second tine through. I continue to be concerned that awful pronunciation is one day going to kill several hundred people in one swell foop. Listen, for just one example, to Narita ATC. Lunway 31, rhine up and wait. And that's just the beginning.  That they understand each other at all is testament to the human brain's ability to extract meaning from mush.  It is really not that hard to learn the pronunciation of a new language. Just takes a reasonably good instructor and a bit of work.

Thanks for posting! Cheers.
