That audio never gets old Smiley

For those that are interested in that sort of thing, I published a video of the Blues from the Jones Beach Airshow (Long Island, NY) in 2006. I kept a scanner nearby, so you get a mix of engine noise and the air-air comms.  It's not perfect, though, the scanner bounced back and forth between the solos and the diamond, sometimes picking up the group that was not being filmed at the time. Every now and then, though, it works out nicely:

They break formation during the diamond dirty loop at 2:20, but I don't hear anything on the scanner at the time.

It has nothing to do with the G forces. Watch any documentary that shows a pre-flight briefing, where they run through the entire show from the comfort of a desk...and you'll notice that the Boss' intonation is exactly the same.

He uses different inflections of the same word to denote just how much pressure he plans to exert on the stick.  All of the pilots on the team listen closely and can tell what's to come by the WAY he says it. The words themselves are actually in a script, believe it or not. If you were to transcribe the Boss' audio over several shows, it should basically read the same.

Hope this helps Smiley

The 7.5g's (computer-limited maximum for the F/A-18) is only experienced by the solo's during brief moments in the show.  The folks in the Diamond don't pull more than 4, AFAIK. They can talk quite normally under those circumstances.

Very interesting and informative.  Makes me shake my head in continued amazement at these teams' skills.

Although the 7.5g's and 4g's are made more impressive by the fact that the Blue Angels pilots do not wear g suits because it could move the stick when it inflates and deflates in response to the g's.  Normally not a problem, but defintely a problem when you are wingtip to wingtip.

Discovery has a 4 part documentary called "Blue Angels: A Year in the Life" which is just outstanding. It's even better if you can catch it in HD (they show it on Discovery and Discovery HD Theater fairly frequently).

People may also find it useful to search for video footage from media rides. Those are the single biggest testament to the fact that the pilots can hold a normal conversation during basic aerobatic maneuvers.  They sound downright jovial.

Watch this video from the 1:30 mark onwards through the loop:

2g, 3g, 4g, the guy's voice does not change one iota.

Try to ignore the guy in the back losing his mind Smiley
