To elaborate on the above (brief!) description -

Fedex B727, Flight FDX1491 experiences landing gear issues on approach to BOS. Performs go-around, re-flies the approach and lands safely. I've edited down the archive clip above to contain only related transmissions and removed some silences. Shame quite a bit of it towards the end is unreadable.

MEM to PWM lost hydraulics going in to PWM. Divert to BOS couldn't get gear down on first pass.

Ah, I see. It was a divert. Just assumed it was destined for BOS.

This is the second FedEx flight to land at KBOS with landing gear problems lately. On Feb 26, 2009, FedEx 1406, a DC-10 (I think...), landed at KBOS after using alternate gear extension procedures. ATC clip is attached to that thread if anyone is interested. I have linked to this thread below.

My best friend's brother works at Logan and he said that the male controller in the clip is this new phenom they have.   That controller's  father has worked at LGA for years, and that he has been sitting at the scopes watching people work traffic for years.  Apparently he is so naturally talented, they only could think of one person with the skill-set to match and train him, and that was our very own, Boston John, which is why he wasn't on the air for so long.  He is admired by his coworkers so much as a result of certifying in a record 6 weeks, that they've labeled him "Boston Gregg," and he has been given the torch from Boston John to carry on for the next generation of controllers at Boston.  I also heard that it was a direct result of his calm demeanour and quick problem solving that kept these two aircraft from hitting.  He said there was so much behind the scenes during this mishap that you don't hear, people panicking and whatnot, but B.G. saved the day, and is now up for a federal save award for this incident.  I think it is great that we are watching a budding superstar grow in front of us, and I thank Logan management for recognizing the talent they had and matching him up with the only controller worthy of such a task, Boston John.

Okay, that was the funniest thing I've read on these boards in a long time
