Boston John...
« on: February 18, 2008, 09:35:16 AM »
I am new to this board, and this is my first post.  However, I wasted no time when it came to discovering some of the old posts of Boston John.  I love him! He has such a great sense of humor! I don't see any current postings of him lately, does anyone have anything current?

from what i understand, people heard him last around november, iirc.  strange that he has disappeared since then.  i have listened to many boston feeds at many times of day/night looking for him but haven't found him.

if anyone has any info, i'd be interested to hear it.  btw, wouldn't it be odd for him just to disappear for so long?

As we "officially" don't know much, if anything about him, how do we know he hasn't retired? I mean, we have seen newspaper clips and news footage of who we think he may be, but we honestly don't know anything about him. If he decided to opt for retirement, we would never know.

According to the FAA database, he is still at Boston tower.  That doesn't necessarily mean he is working as a CPC, he could be in operations now.  Anything beyond what is listed in the FAA database is pure speculation.  I sure do miss hearing him on the frequency.  I'm sure we'll hear him again sometime soon (hopefully!).

Good to hear that he's still around. Hopefully we'll catch him this month as well.

His ears must have been burning, he's working Tower (132.22) this morning.

It's actually soothing to hear his voice again.   :-)

Sheesh, I wish you guys got this excited when you hear me on there.

Ha, actually I haven't had the pleasure of working with our very own "Boston John" up there.  Unfortunately I'm not scheduled to hit Boston this month or next.  But that's always subject to change at the whim of crew scheduling

i'm not sure what his name is, but i also really like the JFK tower guy who sounds like alan alda.  he has been on at night, as of late.  very little accent, usually really calm.

I think there has been a mix-up somewhere. The blog links to this article:
http://www.learner.org/channel/workshops/nextmove/metaphor/airtraf.html

However, if you listen to the clip on that page, it doesn't sound like 'Boston John' at all. The 'John' on that page has a distinct Hispanic accent, which I have never heard from 'our' Boston John.

Your thoughts would be appreciated.

I don't know what to tell you.  I was just going by the name.  If it's not him, I certainly do apologize for getting it wrong, but I thought it sounded like the same voice...just a little quieter and more subdued (possibly letting his accent come out more) than he does on the Air Traffic radio.  I could be completely wrong, though; it's been known to happen...often.

That is definitely John. This has been discussed before in this forum. :)
