A Delta 767 Clips the tail of a regional Delta CRJ.

The first clip is the tower feed with the incident occuring

The second is the ground handling the movement.

mk223, are you positive it was a runway incursion? Information I've read shows it took place on a taxiway (near 4L at the approach end, possibly on B at the J intersection. Actually listed as a hotspot on the taxiway diagram (HS 1). http://204.108.4.16/d-tpp/1107/00058AD.PDF

If you're not positive it's a runway incursion, could you retitle the thread? Calling it an incursion gives it a different meaning and the press looking for audio clips may get a false impression of what happened.

These photos show the CRJ clearly outside of the runway safety area, on the taxiway side of the hold short lines:

I haven't found any photos with the 767 still in position, but I don't see how that was an incursion.

Fixed. I did rush to get that up. Dually noted on the points there as I have made some corrections.

Thanks! A lot of media sources have reported this as a "runway collision"... but in their eyes, any time a plane is moving around on the airport surface, it's probably on a runway  rolleyes

Ouch - not a good week for Delta in terms of collisions! Great clips - I hope that CRJ will be able to fly again; the folks over at airliners.net seem to think it will be fixable.

Yeah, I couldnt figure out what flight that was, I went to the tower feed and couldnt make it out. Per another plane person, which I agree with is that they declared an emergency based on fuel levels as once they landed, they didnt need equipment. Not that it wasnt serious or anything, but it certainly did make for a full plate for the controllers.

What does the ACY pilot say at 29 seconds in..  Sounds like either, "Roger I can attest, I was dangling on your side."  Or "I was dangling on this side.."??

I think its another pilot near by saying, "I can testify to that, its dangling on your side."

Was there nothing relevent archived before this clip begins? What clearances/taxi instructions were the two aircraft given prior to the collision? Anything in the archives to indicate why the RJ came to a stop where it did?

Here's the edited audio of all ground movements of both planes before the collision from both the ground and both tower frequencies. Everything is in chronological order although all non relevant transmissions and empty space has been edited out.

 I think the incident happened at Bravo and Mike. The 767 was going to takeoff from runway 4R whereas the CRJ was heading for runway 9.

EDIT: I forgot the very first DAL266 transmission. I've inserted it in now.

Immediatly after my post above, I did listen to the archives and heard all of what you included there. I'd say you got everything relevent to the situation.

Lacking any information on the position of the #1 aircraft for Rwy 9, it still really doesn't give any insight into why the RJ was where it was...

I tend to get lost easily on the airport diagram, but is it possible that the CRJ in front had just turned north onto mike while the 767 was heading east on bravo - the CRJ turned but the 767 didn't allow enough spacing and the left wing hit the tail that way?
