Cessna 150 Mayday engine trouble. Lands in corn field
« on: September 19, 2015, 11:03:45 PM »
**Updated with correct audio file..sorry** Around 13 minute mark Mayday due to engine trouble.
The aircraft experienced a nose-over during a force landing to a cornfield in southwest Mt Airy north of the intended emergency destination of Montgomery County Airpark (KGAI), Gaithersburg, Maryland. The airplane came to rest inverted, sustaining substantial damage, and the sole pilot onboard was not injured.

Something is hittin my head right now...

Does this recently happened?

I looked for this on Google and most of the entrances are from yesterday, 19 Sep.

Now, your audio file is named Dec-08-2014....... explain, please?

Okay, I investigated.

On December the 8th, 2014 a PHENOM EMB-500 crashed over a residential area near GAI.

That's that audio and not about the Cessna 510 recently occured. Check that out, sir! :-)

You can keep this post as it is interesting as well but rename or whatever. Here is the report about that Phenom:

Awesome, anyways I downloaded the audio about that Phenom where six people were killed.

You can re-uploaded it another post, if you want to.

This is the audio, then. Thanks for correction and sharing. Downloading! :-)

I'll work videos bout these two!

Could anyone give me a hand on this?

When he declares the mayday, he says...

"Mayday, mayday, mayday, this is Cessna 714CW [...]"
"714CW, the nature of the problem?"
"Engine is [..]"

I just can't get it. Thank you! :-)

"Mayday, mayday, mayday, this is Cessna 714CW [we just lost our engine]"
"714CW, the nature of the problem?"
"Engine is [running very rough]"

The pilot in the Cessna 150 is a very good friend of mine. He was at my house just the day before and parks his airplane right next to mine.
He didn't have a scratch on him which is amazing given the pictures I saw.

So the funny thing is, I am the feeder for the KIAD SFRA feed where his transmissions were captured! I was on the phone with Paul talking about the incident and he mentioned that he was interested to hear the ATC tapes from the FAA to see how calm he came across the radio. When he mentioned the frequency, I pulled the LiveATC archives from my feed and viola, instant ATC tapes!

Pretty crazy huh?

Marco

Wow!!!

Congratulate him from we all. I have just made a video for my youtube channel with maps, diagrams and so on so will share it with you and he can see what he perfectly did.

He was on a very hard situation, made a decision and lived without a scratch as you say. That's heroic!

Thanks. I will relay that to him. He did really well flying the airplane and was really great about how he reacted to the whole incident. He didn't seem shaken up at all.

By the way, if you listen to the tape, the controller asked him to let them know if he landed OK. When Paul said "Will do" he was a few feet above the corn stalks and about to touch down. Very calm indeed.

Remember:
A GOOD landing is one where you can walk away from the airplane
A GREAT landing is one where you can use the airplane again.

It's so important to keep as serene as possible, and he amazingly was.

Having serenity and professionalism to talk the ATC when you're about to almost crash and you know what's going to happen. That's not a runway, that's wild country. That's not prepared for you to be there but you finally win the game and do it... That has to be just awesome!

I'll share my video by US night / Europe morning in this same post. Hope it hits him in some way! :-)
