DAL 944 Alternator Failure
« on: December 21, 2015, 11:21:24 PM »
While abeam Norfolk at FL400 out over the Atlantic, Delta 944 had an alternator drive failure and needed to get the APU started in order to proceed (legally) to JFK rather than divert to Norfolk. Communications are all from the 6577/5550 HF feed. I just happened to be in the shack when 944 asked for a phone patch frequency (6640), so I dialed it in on the second R-390, meaning there are communications on both 6577 and 6640, though I did throttle the RF gain between the rigs real time to reduce some of the confusion... there were about twenty listeners at the time and I wanted to give them a good show. My LDOC 6640 feed also captured this event, and you can find it in the archives for 12-11-2015 starting at 2100Z, but that feed uses cheap sand-state radios and the quality is not as good. This recording is just from the 6577 feed and is edited for relevance, however the bulk of it is pretty much in real time.
