DAL2158 w/smoke odor at KPHL
« on: April 27, 2011, 09:51:24 PM »
Delta 2158 (MD88 - KMCO to KJFK)) diverted to KPHL due to smoke odor in rear of aircraft.  Ultimately all was well although there is some confusion getting the rear stairs open once on the ground so the Fire Dept. could check the aircraft.

Clip edited for time and to include only transmissions relative to the incident.  F9/F21 is the KPHL duty Fire Command and Airport 10 is the duty Airport Operations supervisor.

Cptbrw,
Thanks for posting this. I was on that flight, and ended up having to rent a car and drive PHL-NYC that night. The confusion about the rear stairs was evident on board, and it took nearly an hour from then the plane was given the All OK to when we were tugged to the gate.

Yeah, I was surprised that, apparently, the fire department personnel didn't know how to open that door from the panel on the outside.  It seemed to be a lot more drawn out than was necessary.
