Emergency at Heathrow
« on: January 17, 2008, 08:43:26 AM »
Latest news report:  BA flight from Beijing to LHR has landed short of the runway at LHR.  Seems to have skidded across the grass and come to rest on end of runway 27 (I think).  Surrounded by fire trucks.  All passengers and crew appear to have been safely evacuated.

Difficult to see from TV shots but left side wing has damage and presumably the undercarriage has detached.

You won't be able to. streaming/rebroadcasting of ATC is illegal in the UK.  :?

Oh yeah, I forgot about that.  Damn.

It is odd that it's illegal there.  Bah.

Ah - what a pity! I live in Hounslow, less than 3 miles from LHR, and had been considering setting up a feed for LiveATC for a while now. Now that idea goes out the window.

I am directly aligned between the runways, in that aircraft heading to the North runway fly on one side of my building and to the South runway on the other. Normally, the log jam of 5+ visible aircraft on the glideslope at min. separation only occurs during the early morning peak, but it was just continuous lining up for the North runway when the South was closed.

Yeah... it sucks, but there's nothing we can really do about it except have you guys living there lobby Parliament. The law for it goes back to 1949, so it's been on the books for half a century. If you want to stream there, have them repeal the law. Otherwise...  :|
