FLIGHT PATH - From Past to Present - VIDEO
« on: July 09, 2006, 07:24:58 PM »
Ok.. I just couldn't go by without posting this one, it's a video/slideshow done with music of one pilots journey from learning on a Cessna to flying a  Boeing.  It's a great video and one that all new pilots should check out..

Thats a really great video you put together.

I feel honored that I'm apart of it.  I was one of the ramp rats loading the F-28 in YXX.

I've also flown in the same area (N.O.)
I've flown into Red and Pickle and Kap. a few times.
I sure don't miss the winters in Northern Canada anymore.

Cheers and good luck with you career at West Jet.

While we are on the topic of past to present. I working extremely hard in high school right now to get into the USAFA or USMA or USNA and to get into flight school. Any tips that you all could share such as classes in high school you wish you wouldve taken that could have helped you in your piloting career? If so i would greatly apreciate it, its been my dream to fly since i sat in my first plane.

Don't have allergies, and by all means don't have asthma!!!!  Otherwise if you are doing good in school, you should have a good shot in the AF.  Talk w/ a recruiter.  I'm in high school too, and every time I talk to a recruiter and say I have asthma, he basically spends the rest of the conversation trying to get rid of me.  All branches have an absolute zero tolerance policy for asthmatics, but especially their pilots.

Oh my god!! Awesome!! Just no comment...
what a path!!
This guy wanted to be a pilot no matter what would have happened!
And top of it, he ended flying for my favorite one with WestJet babies... :-P

Thanks for the reply. I think with your case of asthma maybe try helicopters or becoming a crew cheif or gunner in a blackhawk (in the Army). If i was to go to the USMA then i would try very hard to fly the Blackhawk. My all time favorite helicopter. Maybe if thats the path i take i could be flyin with ya!!

Only problem is, not a single branch will even let asthmatics into required basic training: in other words...if you have asthma, you can not under any circumstances join any branch of the armed services.  :(

Make sure you get involved in leadership stuff at school if possible, like Student Council or run for Class Officer. They also like to see applicants who are involved in athletics. I just happen to be friends with a retired Col. in the Air Force and he's really good friends with a col. on the board of admissions at The Air Force Academy.
