FNT Avantair Emergency
« on: November 16, 2011, 12:52:43 PM »
At about 9:30 AM this morning, a Piaggio P-180 operating for Avantair was on a flight from Detroit (DTW) to West Bend (ETB) when it declared an emergency due to a failure of one of two turboprop engines. Flint Approach vectored the aircraft into the airport, and Flint Tower cleared the aircraft to land on any runway. The aircraft landed on Runway 27, but veered to the right and flipped in the grass off the side of the runway. All four occupants were able to walk away from the accident. The runway and airport were re-opened by 10:00 AM.

Here is what I condensed from the KFNT feed related to the accident.  The ground transmitter is really overdriving the feed, so ground is a bit distorted, sorry.

I'm glad nobody was seriously hurt.  Hats off to ATC for keeping everyone out of the way, too, and giving the pilot options.

Weird, my attachment didn't attach. Sorry about that. Thanks, Rick, for posting.
