save on gas

Good idea...

I took United 52 on my way back from Hawaii. Great flight.

I got to fly a 777 from SFO-DEN after that, it was a full flight, and I had the absolute middle seat. This is not an experience I recommend.

This descent is nothing special.  We do a similiar type of descent, just using the opposite philosophy.  Stay up high then follow with an idle descent to keep speed up, rather than a shallow idle descent with slow speed.  With gas prices the way they are, airlines have to do what they can

Give that man a promotion, he's read his flight manual!

A 250kt VNAV SPD DES makes the whole situation go better.  Also helps the 250 @ 10 restriction and a constant descent rate is much easier because it makes more efficent use of the avaliable air miles so .... no busting of altitude constraints.

As Fonzie would say, aaaaay!

Yes, I know, that was odd, I mean, when's the last time you heard anybody mention the Fonz?

Actually, he just read his dispatch..they fly the descent speeds assigned to them by their company.

We don't put them on the dispatch release.  Operating guidance comes from the flight manuals.

The ICAO format flight plan includes the mach number or TAS only.
