JBU180 @ KJFK - Lightning Strike
« on: May 18, 2011, 09:15:09 PM »
JBU180 (A320) on approach to KJFK was struck by lightning.  Initially they reported no issue but a short time later declared an emergency with the smell of smoke in the cockpit.  Landed without incident, smoke odor dissipated and no damage was reported.  Interesting exchange on the ground with CFR personnel about what at first appeared to be a crack down the left side of the fuselage.  After closer examination it was instead believe to be the remnants of prior livery/advertising as the same line was seen on the right side.  It should be noted that the weather was poor with rain/mist at the time.

Does the ground controller know what a fuselage is?
