JFK: Lufthansa pilot leaves aircraft on taxiway
« on: April 29, 2007, 06:38:12 AM »
First clip I'm posting. Downloaded from the archives long ago, but I've only now installed audacity and edited this file. The original sequence lasted about 6 minutes, I shortened it to 4.

The controller seemd to be amused about it...

Hope you like it.

So how exactly would he get outside? Do they go get a set of airstairs, or does he open the window and throw a rope out, or what?

The ATCO is dying of laughter. I'd still like to know how he gets outside...the 340 doesn't have aft airstairs or anyting

Getting out isn't the problem.  It's the getting back in that may prove to be a bit difficult...

Not sure of this type of equipment, but some large aircraft have a way in and out  of the cabin or cockpit thru the nose gear well down a small ladder.

What a dedicated crew.  Most would probably just go back to the gate and waste more time and money!  Probably not the safest thing to do walking on an active taxiway with live engines.

Hey was this in Jfk or Bos, when I play this it says in the song info that it is "KBOS-Boston Tower" but the topic says jfk  and the controller does give instructions to position and hold on rwy 31l which is a jfk runway, which adds to my confusion. just pointing that out. :?

So true...this pilot was not messing around at all.  If its as simple as closing a hatch though, I'd probably man up and do it myself too...but then again i've never walked around in the middle of a 31L or 22R lineup!

Hi,

This was JFK. Just to avoid doubt: in the beginning the controller also says "Lufthansa 401", which is a flight (number) from JFK to Frankfurt.

Noticed the song info, too, maybe this is somehow due to my "first steps" while exploring audacity...

No wonder LH's on time performance is incredible!! Simple problem.... simple solution without going back to gate....

Has anyone heard the relatively new controller at Kennedy? She's a bit humble and seems like a rookie

So they left the gate with the door open, what would have happened if they took off with it open.

I don't think they left the gate with the control panel open. Seems more like the panel hadn't been closed properly before they left the gate and then opened by itself during taxi, which is where they probably got the warning on their displays.

Funny, but why didnt they have the guy in the car close the door?  It would have been much easier.

Does the car ever get there?

As far as i remember the JetBlue confirms the hatch is open and we don't hear from the car again

From what I heard, the car got there and the guy in the car confrimed that the hatch was open.  Because they were talking back and forth about where that hatch is located. And then, I think, the car left.

Well, what would have happened if it came open in flight.
