JFK Turtle

Just when you thought you'd heard everything, you're proved wrong. This is my first attempt at clipping from archives, so hopefully it works. Dead air and other traffic removed.

Enjoy!

When I first saw this thread, I thought it was about this incident, which has been circulating on the web for years:

It might adversly affect a jet engine that it got sucked into, and yes, that could happen. Google for news stories about people being sucked into jet engines (mechanics, who got too close during runups, for example), and you'll find some.

I was on a jumpseat ride on DAL back in the days when ATC could ride on the flightdeck. We were taxiing out to the rwy at MCO when I noticed ahead an object on the taxiway.  I mentioned it to the captain. It turned out to be a 4' long alligator blocking the taxiway.  After a few minutes waiting , the captain spooled up an engine and the gator scurried off the rwy.

Turtles and geese were common sightings on the rwy at APN when I was controlling in the Air Force.

Nice story!  The best is when the runway condition is commonly reported nil in parts of canada due to the...uh...let's say "goose waste."

My dad had to hold short of an alligator a year or so ago...the thing just wouldn't move and both spooling up the engines and TRs didn't do a thing.  I guess patience is key in those situations..
