Kite traffic at JFK
« on: November 22, 2010, 10:05:10 PM »
High flying kite in final approach area to 31L creates a heads up caution.
Caught this at about 3:12 PM EST today.

If the pilots can see the kite, the deusch flying it can definitely see the planes...

Yup, what a tool.

we were flying in as that was happening. VOR 13L and right past CRI the tower controller told us to maintain 1900', instead of the usual 1500'. Made a fun- normal approach all that more interesting. And yes, you could see it from the air.

Remember how they send the Police Helicopters after the people with the green lasers? Did they do that with the kite people?

Too dangerous for the to happen in this situation. Id imagine the helicopter would want to be at least 1500 ft to stay away from the line, plus it was right by the approach (wake turbulence and all).
