KSBP Engine Failure
« on: February 03, 2011, 04:49:50 PM »
Found this while searching through recent NTSB reports in California. N8608W, a Piper PA-28 had an engine failure while inbound to KSBP on January 20, 2011. The first part of the clip is the check in with tower, second part is ground rescue communications, and the final part is tower again communicating with N47CF, a helicopter (unknown type). Audio was edited for relevance, tower was pretty busy with not much more than 3 seconds between communications between 2100z-2130z.

Annoying voice, maybe (you can hear her in the background of the ground part) but damn... that was well played. She made some quick, effective communications and moved the traffic around.

The ASN link shows another crash off KSBP just this morning. An Aeronca O-58 Grasshopper went into the trees north of the airport, with no fatalities, but 2 seriously injured.
