Occurred in Newport Beach, CA on Tuesday November 5th around 1PM. I am curious as to what the helicopter pilot said to ATC. I tried listening to the SNA link, but no luck. Here's a link to the news story http://www.latimes.com/local/la-me-1107-chopper-fall-20131106,0,5708335.story#axzz2jwWquTlV

According to the news report, the helicopter left KFUL at around 12:50 local time.  If you listen to the archives for KFUL, there was a helicopter that departed KFUL from Cardinal Air at around the 8 minute mark in the recording and was given clearance to go east.  I did not hear any other helicopters depart in that recording between 12:30 and 13:00 local time.  So it might have been this guy.  At the 11:30 mark he was given "frequency change approved" by the tower controller.  He might have flown VFR from that point on without contacting another controller but to be sure I checked whatever SoCal App/Dep freqs were available in Liveatc feeds and found no reference to that helicopter.  Apparently he was at 500 feet when this happened so it's possible he wasn't talking to ATC at the time.  He might have called on Guard (121.5) but the only feed with Guard on it (that I could find anyway) is KLAX tower and I didn't hear anything there either.  He could have been on a frequency that isn't covered by Liveatc...
