Just thought i'd share what I stumbled across this afternoon broadcasting on 121.3 which is usually the RAF Waddington Freq: Either American or Canadian Military exercises over Lincolnshire/North Sea UK.

Now I must admit i'm not clued up when it comes to Military movements, exercises and the likes but I believe this was a dog fight exercise with call sign 'Magic' being the AWACS and 'Tiger' being the fighters.

I've edited the dead air and captured all I could before they moved over to a London Mil freq.

If anyone cares to clarify what was going on in this recording, please do! :)

Oh, and I really need to get a scanner that covers Mil freqs. I have a clear shot over a number of RAF bases.

This is a recording of AWACS directed intercepts and ACM between Dutch F-16s and US acft type unknown.  I think the Tigers are a 2 ship Tiger 23 and 24.
Initially Tiger contacts Magic to say they are in the airspace.  Magic acknowledges Tiger 24 and asks them to squawk or push a button that causes their IFF to blink on the RADAR the AWACS is using so that Magic can see them better.  Just like  mode C transponders.  Magic does not see the blinking information block on the RADAR and asks Tiger to recycle parrot or to turn the IFF off and on again.  Tiger must not have heard Magic's squawk 4300 call and asks Magic to say again squawk and Magic gives them 4300.  Magic also asks Tiger flight to recycle mode C.
With the preliminaries out of the way Magic gives Tiger flight the bandit position call or 049 35 miles fl270.  The 2 hot bit means 2 bad guys.  Magic gives 3 position reports to Tiger 24 on the bad guys and unfortunately for Tiger its aluminium showers and hair, teeth and eyeballs.  He dead.  The next call is the shoot down of Tiger 23.  Whoever the bad guys were shot the Tigers down with missiles.  23 asks if Magic explained to the bad guys that Tiger 23 was just a Bogey and not a bandit.  Magic says he did.  Magic then gives the terminate or fight's off call.  Magic then tells Tiger that the adversary is going to RTB (return to base) after this pass.  Whoever Tiger is fighting is out of play time and has to go home.
All of the calls that say stuff like 035 for 33 at 27 are position calls on the bad guys.  035 is the direction, 33 is distance and 27 is FL 270.
Ultimately Magic gives someone their ATC clearance from the MOA to home.

Hope that helps.
