Mystery interference?

Audible as 6 short bursts in the attached audio clip. I hear this regularly in the air band, and today it was captured on the LAX feed. (Thanks to the KLAX feeder).

Wondering if anyone out there knows what this is? Pager? Intermod??? huh

Thanks.

Sounds like either:

1) Packet radio transmission, or,
2) mobile data transmission

It's an ACARS tranmission.

You guys are good!

I learn something new from this site every time!

Loaded up the scanner with known VHF ACARS frequencies and bingo, mystery solved.

Made a recording of what the ACARS data bursts sound like which confirms what I've been hearing for all these years.

Thanks LiveATC! grin

Sometimes, depending on the location of the receiver's antenna, you can hear the passage of the ARTS radar beam.  It can be heard as a chirp every 5-6 seconds or so.  I once flew over a nexrad radar dish and it had a much different, longer sound too.

Yeah, it's annoying when you've got Active Noise Reduction headsets and you are at a field with the surveillance radar on the field.  Every 5 seconds or so you get a little "yip-click" in the headset.   It gets really loud when you taxi right past the radar dish.
