Just happened near Vancouver airport - Northern Thunderbird Air Beechcraft 100. Thankfully no fatalities EDIT: Several are in critical condition, hoping they all pull through...

http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/british-columbia/story/2011/10/27/bc-richmond-plane-crash.html

Here's the ATC recording (with audacity's amazing noise removal feature!) - sounds like the pilots were confident and in control as they were cleared to land. No word yet on accident cause - weather was fine.

you can't beat Audacity can you?!!  lol

What does the controller mean by, "and confirm that you don't need any equipment" to which the pilot replied, "negative." Did he already have a problem going on that might have facilitated to the crash?

Yes, that is how I interpreted it.

EDIT: The flight was Vancouver to Kelowna, so the aircraft was returning shortly after takeoff with a problem.

According to the news report, the pilot had already declared an emergency, so the controller already knew there was a problem before this audio clip starts.

Pretty sure the controller was asking if the pilot wanted fire trucks, ambulances, or other airport emergency vehicles to meet the plane after landing. Sounds like the pilot thought everything was going to be fine and they were going to make the runway...

The pilot has passed away, RIP.

Something must have gone horribly wrong just in the last 30 seconds or so. The flight returned to Vancouver due to an oil indication issue.

"...On its approach, the aircraft banked sharply left and crashed 900 metres short of the runway..."
