Hi,

I caught this little episode on my scanner last night. Several issues lead me to believe that this was part of training or testing procedures but it's interesting anyway.

Cheers
Jane

Thanks Jane...

Do you know what kind of aircraft that the intercepting pilot was flying?

Hi Cessna172,

The "Pirate" callsign is used by the F/A18's of the RAAF 77SQN.

Wow that's a very interesting clip. Any idea where the restricted airspace is?

This incident would have occured above or around the Williamtown RAAF base YWLM S32 47.7 E151 50.1 which is approx 134km's NNE of Sydney. The exact airspace location reference wasn't mentioned unfortunately.

The sound file was originally attached to the first post in this thread but was lost during a forum upgrade some time back. I have re-attached the sound file to the first post - took a while to find it though.

right at the beginning the F18 pilot calls the intruding airplane and he ID's it as a Cesna.

and i could be wrong but i thought i could hear the cesna pilot say that he had an emergency and had a deceased person on board ?!...

the F18 pilot(or William town ATC im not sure) than gave him vectors to land at Williamtown airbase.

i wonder what came of this...didnt hear anything about it in the news or anything...

William town airbase is both a civil and a military airport.
