Pilot has no idea how to handle Class D airspace (KPKB)

His instructor should have spent more time with him at towered fields.  You can hear the controller's frustration.  He's obviously inexperienced so I don't want to bash him too much, but perhaps this clip can be used for other students as an example of what not to do.

N21ZA at KPKB on 1/8/2013 - approach, landing, taxi, takeoff, departure.

Silence and unrelated traffic truncated from audio.

He seems to be handling the radio more like you would at an uncontrolled field, making blind traffic advisories and stating the airport name at beginning and end off each transmission.

Painful to listen too.  He just didn't seem to get it.  Poor fella, his instructor needs a good talking to.

He needs a few more hours at a controlled airport, doing touch and goes and full stops. And definitely with an instructor on board.

The ATC got steel balls to deal with it.  Try NYC metro with that training.

I guess cases like these are the reason why you're required to do an oral exam on radio phraseology and procedures before being allowed to fly solo cross country in Germany.. Not saying it's a good test (just one more way to squeeze some extra money out of you) or that you're an ace on the radios afterwards but in this particular case, it would probably actually have helped...

He needs to listen to LiveATC.net! lol I recommend a lot of pilots who are uncomfortable talking with ATC to listen.

Usually talking to ATC is a confidence issue, seems like this pilot just doesn't know how to talk to atc.

IT's best to use FSX and live atc and also to start your training at a class D airport, I did both Kissimmee and Sacramento Executive
