This is a repost of the KLM PAN PAN audio clip from August 2005, as I discovered that the original clip was lost when the forum was converted to the SMF Board software.

The clip was originally created by IndyTower.  I have modified the original by converting it to MONO (dumping the stereo track) and reducing the bitrate to 16kbps, which reduced the size of the clip from 15 MB down to 1.3 MB while retaining audio quality.

Premise:

On August 2, 2005, an Air Canada Airbus was approaching Toronto's Pearson airport to land during a heavy thunderstorm.  Upon landing, the aircraft ran off the end of the runway and crashed.  IIRC all passengers and crew were able to escape.

Right behind this landing aircraft was KLM 691, a Boeing 747, which was also being vectored to land on the same runway.  Upon being told that the preceding aircraft had crashed, KLM declared a PAN PAN due to concerns of low fuel and notified ATC of their intention to divert to Syracuse, NY.

This clip begins with KLM 691 being vectored onto the ILS just as the Airbus crashed, the PAN PAN, and the eventual landing at SYR airport in NY.

Only correction is that it was Air France that crashed. An A340. Good clip and good editing my friend.
