Restricted area - Orlando International
« on: April 21, 2010, 11:42:03 AM »
Was searching for a listeners forum item about an emergency, the feed wasn't there yet, but I found this interesting part in the 90 minutes before that alleged emergency.

Flying in restricted area's, what does it do to a pilot? wil he be taken for questioning?

Can this pilot offer a more orthodox solution to avoid a fine? By buying the female controller a lunch?  What do they do?

What is does to a pilot, especially in this day and age, is guarantee a conversation with the FAA, at a minimum. But this controller or some other monitoring entity would have to report it and it would have to be verified.

In this case she seemed unsure, as she sort of indicated to the pilot that he was "in a restricted area that my radar does not even cover" (whatever that means) and was then trying to determine exactly where he was. In this case if the transgression was brief, the pilot probably slid by.

As for "unorthodox solutions" like buying lunch for the controller, I guess because she is female and the pilot is a male (a very intelligent one at that, by the sound of things) , I assume you're joking. That's ridiculous.

Was there a TFR up last night at anytime in Florida?  I know the shuttle came in, but that was yesterday, and the time stamp on the archive is today at 1400Z.  In the recording, ATC tells the pilot to continue heading south and report abeam New Smyrna Beach airport.  Looking at the sectional, I don't show any restricted areas north of EVB, just directly south of there, a warning area off shore to the west and the restricted areas well inland, in the Lake George area.  Am I missing something?

Comm-loss - Restricted area - Orlando International

At the same Orlando feed I heard there was a comm loss, where I think the parts in this edited conversation belong together.....

Pls correct me if i'm wrong, but I think there is a search (QRA scramble) going on.

The first part, "they are right over the top of Orlando"
The second part is about a comm loss at 4000 feet North East of the airport and westbound.

In the beginning, they're talking about the typical buildup of low cummulus , about 1,500'.

The 'over top of orlando' is refering to Rain showers moving into the area. :-D

"there is no rain or anything.. but uh... there will be in a little while.  They're right over the top of Orlando, uh... Executive."

Knowing ATC in the MCO/SFB area, sound like they're talking about the typical thunderstorm's that build up in late morning, early afternoon in the area, since KMCO is just SE of KORL, I can imagine the showers were moving into the area of KMCO.

Not sure about the comm loss, though wonder why there was a C210 flying at the departure end of 35L, with no radio at 4K feet, definitely in violation of Class B.  Hopefully it was actually a comm loss, can't see any other explanation for that.

Still trying to figure out the restricted area the controller is referring to in the first clip though.

Tnx for clearing that out, sometimes I hear things related to a specific area, where I'm not familiar with, that makes it hard to understand some of the conversations... Though I was able to find the matching conversations throughout normal chit chat...

The feed also has a difficulty level, multiple scanner frequencies over eachother.  But I am not complaining  :-D
