Northwest 27 "heavy" fuel dump over San Francisco, CA
« on: October 21, 2006, 12:35:37 AM »
Recorded a Northwest "heavy" DC-10 dumping fuel. Possible debris on runway? A flyby request?
Thought I would share this recording.

Great recording; no dead air.  Thanks a lot.

Audio recorded on Mother's Day Sunday May 9th, 2004 approx. (1400).

Watched the fuel dump from my balcony that day and turned on the scanner (Uniden Bearcat BC785D) and started recording.

Regularly, Northwest 27 departs San Francisco International Airport with non-stop service to Tokyo Narita Japan.

Thanks for listening!

I knew it was a while ago because I believe NWA27 is now operated with A330 equipment instead of the aging DC-10's.

My aunt who is the Head Operations Manager for North West DTW hub said that as part of their cost cutting they are buying new airplanes to replace its aging fleet. Also NWA made its first profit in Aug.

None of the above. I remember this incident clearly.

This was a DC10-30 on its way to Seoul via Tokyo Narita, when it encountered a bird strike in the port engine. No major damage to the engine, but as this was on climbout off of the 28s, they opted to dump fuel before returning to deal with the damage.

Actually, now that I think about it, it might not be the incident I'm remembering. The NWA jet that had the bird strike was a B744, not a DC10. I'm not sure what this one is..

Sounded like they blew a tire on takeoff.  From 28-41 seconds into the clip.  Great clip.
