Space Shuttle Comms - Approach to Edwards AFB
« on: March 06, 2010, 12:17:20 AM »
This is a recording from last year of the space shuttle descent to Edwards AFB.   These comms start well off the So Cal coast as it approached from the southwest and then headed north over Los Angeles.  I have mountains immediately north of my location which blocks any low altitude reception towards Edwards.  Thus, I can't hear anything on final approach (less than about 20,000 ft) nor can I hear what is being transmitted from the ground.  The initial signal strength is pretty weak since it is far away, but gets stronger as it gets closer.  These are UHF comms from 259.7.
