British airways 183 at absolute minimum speed at KJFK . it was B747-400  , wht is the minimum speed for 747-400 ? 140 kts ?  and the traffic he was following was A319 .

I don't know the specs, but for any aircraft, many V speeds are determined by weight.  The minimum speed for flight with full flaps on a 747-400 will definitely depend on its weight.  Typically, their final approach speed is around 160 miles per hour, which converts to 139 knots, close to your guess.  But like I said, it all depends.

In my aircraft, at the max landing weight, normal Vref (landing speed) is 142 kts.  But if we were really light (no passengers and very little fuel (20,000 lbs lighter) the Vref is only 120 kts.

But, oddly enough, in the other (smaller) aircraft I fly, Vref at max landing weight is 135 kts, but at minimum weight (12,000 lbs less) is 125 kts.

So, the moral to the story, is landing speed depends on how much the airplane weighs, but the larger aircraft are not necessarily faster.

Vref is calculated at 1.3 Vso, Vso being the stall speed for the weight and configuration (approach or landing).
For the 747-400 at average landing weight, the reference (minimum) speeds are:
185 kt @15 miles out, 155 kts during final and 140 kts over the threshold.
