KORD - FOD and multiple go arounds

Starting at 10:30 into the attached KORD Tower file,  foreign object debris is reported after Alitalia checks in on final for 22R.  On the north side, landings are also occurring on 14R.  South side approaches to 10.

Alitalia 628 Heavy - 22R: sent around due to FOD
Eagle 4172 - 22R:  given 14L after 22R go around. 
Jet Blue 915 - 22R:  given 14L after 22R go around. 
Air Shuttle 7322 - 22R:  given 14L after 22R go around. 
SkyWest xxx - 14R:  go around due to Eagle 4172 blowing through 14L final
United 943 Heavy - 22R: go around
WaterSki 7895 - 22R: go around
United 958J - 14R: go around

Interesting find.  Sounds like the controller's idea was a good one, but he ended up spooking himself providing visual separation without the aircraft seeing each other.  But I still give him credit for the quick runway change idea, and give him credit for staying on the conservative side.

I looked at the ground tracks on FlightAware for these aircraft.  Waterski 7895 is probably the funniest.

sounded like LAHSO was going on.....

Im not allowed to do that with carriers or AT....:(

also sounds like that FOD created lots of havoc there

This is a good listen.

For those that are trying to follow the strategy, somewhere past 11min in the clip a United notifies tower of asphalt chunks at the intersection of RWY 9R and 22R.  The controller knows right away the headache in store for him...

Thanks for posting this, it's a great reminder of how ridiculous things get when a runway closes and the arrivals are stacked up for miles.
