Thunderstorm tango at KROC
« on: April 27, 2011, 10:33:49 PM »
At about 2230 Zulu on 4/27, a line of strong thunderstorms moved right over KROC from the SW to the NE.  After an RJ did a go-around for weather, several flights spent the next 30 minutes being vectored above, under and around the weather, until they could be vectored through an area of only moderate precip so they could approach from the West after the weather had passed.  The main dance partners are AWI3566, FLG4150 and DAL1118.  Unfortunately the flight tracks at FlightAware don't seem to cover the entire flights.  (I wish there was a way to overlay all the inbound tracks at the same time.)

I tried to edit it down to a brief story but there was really too much going on.  I cut out a lot of dead air but this 15 minute recording still only covers about 22 minutes in real time.  Listen for the captain of FLG4150 to jump on the mic at about 12:25.  I ended the file after the weather passed and the holds were being routed back to normal approach vectors.
