Alaska Airlines 737 evacuated on landing in Seattle
By The Associated Press
An Alaska Airlines 737 was evacuated this morning because of smoke in the cockpit shortly after landing in Seattle.
Federal Aviation Administration spokesman Mike Fergus says evacuation chutes were deployed on the taxiway and no major injuries were reported. A couple of passengers complained of ankle injuries, one had a neck problem and the first officer in the cockpit was treated for smoke inhalation.
Fergus says the pilot of Alaska Flight 529 from Los Angeles reported a potential nose gear problem while approaching Seattle-Tacoma International Airport, but everything appeared OK on a fly-by past the airport control tower. He says the smoke problem arose after the plane was on the ground.
The plane was carrying 103 passengers and a crew of five.
