Must have been one awkward situation for the controller. Anybody know what standard procedure for something like this is, assuming they can't get a hold of the pilot through company or something?

As you heard, ATC will direct all who can copy to go to another frequency. If prolonged you will then hear attempts to reach the aircraft on 121.5 (guard). If you pull the guard archive for that time slot you'll probably hear somebody calling out "stuck mike on 124.5"
