Hard landing
« on: September 29, 2013, 02:26:57 PM »
I was on board as a passenger on a CRJ900 that experienced a hard landing last week at CLT.
At 100AGL, we experienced a strong pitch down event.
Just before contact with the ground, it felt like we leveled out, then we hit the runway.
Main gear felt like it bottomed out. We bounced once and then rolled out.
Both engines were out on the rollout. We rolled to a stop on one of the high speed taxiways.
After a few minutes the pilot came on and said they had an electronics failure and both engines had stopped, they were going to restart and continue on to the gate. They did get both engines re-lit and taxied without incident to the gate.
Amazingly enough, the cockpit door did not open while we deplaned.
I sent an email to the airline that this regional is flying for, but they refuse to give any info about the event.
I haven't found it yet listening to the tower/ground for that day. Still listening and trying to find it.

Any other way I can find out more info on this event?

It would help if we knew what day and what time this event happened...

The Aviation Herald often reports on things like this but I don't see anything for CLT for the past week.

:-D Happens to the best of us!

The only reference I found listening to the archives is well after your flight landed.  CLT Tower gave clearance to cross 36C.  The CLT feed covers a number of frequencies so it's very likely that any of the coms from your flight regarding this event occurred while the radio was on another frequency.

How long were you sitting there on that high-speed taxiway before you continued to the ramp?

Not very long, probably 10 - 15 minutes.
Then restart of both engines and began route to the ramp.
We did land on 36L, crossed 36C, and then around the ramp to E.

Hmmm, well I listened to the archives again going back about 20 minutes from the time I heard your flight get clearance to cross 36C to the ramp.  I never heard any mention of "Air Shuttle 2702" (that's what your call sign was...you did come from Louisville right?) until the 36C crossing clearance.

Yes, 2702 from Louisville.
Ah well, I couldn't find anything in the archive either.
Must have been talking on another frequency.
Thanks for the effort.

Interesting story. Too bad the airline didn't want to comment anything.
