I run the KCSG feed and I have many improvements in planning for it.  I am well aware of the poor reception of certain freqs on it and the issue is that I go to school in Daytona and administer the feed over the internet from my parents house in Columbus.  As soon as I get back to Columbus one weekend(probably 3rd week of March), expect the feed to be broken up into KCSG and ATL Center feeds and I will junk my coathanger 1/4 wave in the attic and put in a J-pole outside tuned to 120.45.  I also want to add a pre-amp and FM trap that will hopefully clear up the feed.  Be patient!

Wow, your planned improvements sound excellent.  Looking forward to hearing how these work out for you.

Out of curiosity, exactly where in Columbus is your folks' place?

I listened to the archives from about a week ago and heard myself coming out of Auburn, get my clearance, but never heard the handoff I got to the Atlanta TRACON.

I'm trying to establish a feed here at my house so I can pick up my instrument checkride here in a couple of weeks. Cheesy

Near Lakebottom Park.  I don't know where the Atlanta TRACON antenna is though, or even the ATL Center one for that matter.  Can't wait to get my new antenna up though  grin Good luck with the checkride, it's kinda like a victory lap after the oral.

I *think* the ATL Center and TRACON transmitters are both at CSG. Columbus had their own TRACON until 2002-2003 when it was rolled into the Atlanta one. I doubt they went to the trouble of moving the transmitter since it was on the same frequency.

Thanks for the encouragement. I'm taking my stage check next weekend, then I will be scehduling my checkride right after that.

I have the ATL/ZTL feed up now, I am currently monitoring 121.0 (NW Satellite approach) and 133.1 (ZTL Sector 31 Low) right now. I'm going to see if RYY or FTY will come in clearly enough to warrant monitoring them as well.

Time for an update  grin
On Thursday I will be going home and will be installing a new antenna, mounting it outside and hopefully putting in an FM trap.  This should greatly improve the feed quality(so bad right now that I don't even listen to my own feed Sad ).

Also there is an airshow next weekend at KCSG.  I will be contacting someone and getting the freqs that they are using and take off ATL center and add them on there so we can listen to the airshow traffic.  I will change it back when I leave Sunday.

I will be taking the feed down momentarily and upgrading the antenna.  Should take about an hour, maybe two.
