ZBW_CCC feed issue
« on: September 12, 2013, 09:25:52 AM »
Hi all,

If you've been listening to the JFK_CCC2 feed lately you might have noticed that you can sometimes hear two different frequencies at the same time.  It seems that the ccc1 feed is bleeding over onto the ccc2 feed but not the other way around.  Not exactly sure what's going on there but this odd problem is being worked on.

Found the problem with the bleedover from ccc1 to ccc2...it has been fixed and both feeds are behaving normally now.

Well, if you've been listening to my CCC2 feed, you would have noticed that the squelch is open most of the time.  This feed is at another location so it can't be fixed until the weekend.  It'll be taken care of as soon as possible...

There are some reception issues with the CCC2 feed.  The radios were recently moved to another part of the room to try and get rid of some of the background noise.  While that seemed to help a little, the ground side of ZBW 134.0 is no longer breaking squelch.  Sometimes it does, but most of the time during the day it doesn't.  The move did not involve any changes (no additional cable, antenna movement, etc.) so I'm not sure what happened.  I will check it out as soon as possible, hopefully this weekend.  The same problem may have affected the CCC1 feed as the ground transmissions seem to be somewhat weaker but you can still hear the ground side on both frequencies.

So I took care of the weak signal problem.  It had gotten weak enough so that you couldn't hear the ground controller on ZBW 134.0.  Ground side is still weak but at least you can hear it again now.

So while I was out here (this feed originates at my parents place) I decided to try and improve reception even further by relocating the antenna to another spot on the roof so that I could raise it somewhat.  This is a gated community and they have their rules...that's why I couldn't simply raise it where it was.  It had to be moved somewhere else.

Well that planned totally failed...I moved the antenna and raised it about 5 feet higher than it was (I know, not much but I thought it would help a little) and the result was a total loss of the ground side transmission on 134.0.

Well, needless to say I was totally disappointed.  All that work...  So I ended up putting it all back the way it was before.  :-(

Oh well...at least you can hear the ground side again...
