Miami App/Dep/ZMA Feeds-ANTENNA ISSUES
« on: December 13, 2010, 06:45:13 PM »
:-o  The answer my friend is blowing' in the wind. Winds have been out of the northwest today between 20-30 MPH which had an effect on my corner reflector antenna...or should I say, the temporary 1 1/2" PVC male adaptor/ pipe .The winds snapped the male fitting sometime today, now the antenna is just dangling however it's facing the right way and surprisingly reception isn't too bad. You may notice some fading or weak signals until repairs can be made. Tonight were expecting lows in the 30's and maybe upper 20's, pretty rare for south Florida. If I can get home before dark (also pretty rare) I'll fix it or will do it this weekend.

The tropospheric ducting that has been helping the reception has ended . I got what I need to do the repair. I MAY be able to do it later today. I’ll post updates here.

OK, were all repaired.  :-D I got done just as the rain started. The only thing left to do is pickup the trash and hookup the guy wires. Also ZMA sector R-41 135.600 is coming in now loud and clear, the antenna is on Bimini
in the Bahamas which is about 60 to 70 miles from me. I suspect that they are transmitting from the RCAG in Miami today. I put it on the 126.325 feed for now

As of about 6:30 PM EST the Trop is happening again :-D Picking up R-5 sector 133.500 Miami Center at the Key West RCAG quite well. The RCAG is approx 140 miles away. All the Miami area freq are off the wall. Most likely that's why I'm receiving 135.600 from Bimini or maybe it's coming out of the Miami RCAG, we'll see as time goes on.  I'll try to pickup the Houston Center freq 135.775 out of Key West.

I have been seeing Tropospheric does not work well in the winter months. Does any one know how can i avoid this?

You might check these websites for more info on Tropo ducting:
