the static has been bad lately  On Saturday Feb. 26, 2011, probably in the AM, I'm going to install Static Busters on all the antennas...will see if they work...wish me luck

PS -That means the feeds will be up and down while I'm doing the work.

OK...here we go

Here comes a story: wow...all I wanted to do was put on something new that I got called Static Buster. Easier said then done however I got them hooked up. As I was raising the tilt-up-mast the winch died, it's been acting up...soooo take it off, get the warranty info, go get another, hook it up then get the show on the road. The new winch pulls fast which caused a sch 80 1 1/2" PVC male adaptor to crack, crank it down, pull all the wires out of the pipe, replace the adaptor, let the glue dry for an hour, I know that's not long enough but we gotta go! Crank it up again and about half way up the pipe falls out out the fitting, crank it down, strip the PVC pipe of all the wires, antennas, etc. and NOW I replaced it with galvanized pipe. I hooked up only one antenna facing towards Miami at the moment and ran the ZMA WPB feed through the same antenna. The WPB feed will be so so until I put up the other antenna tomorrow facing towards WPB. Well it only took 10 hours, I figured it would just take the morning...oh well, ya gotta

note: I still hear static   the ground connection is not hooked up at the moment, will do that too tomorrow, hope they work

Kel,
   It sounds like you may have power line interference.  With high humidity and the salt water atmosphere south Florida is prime territory for power line interference.  Take a portable scanner and ride around your neighborhood and see if you can find an area of maximum static. A small vhf yagi antenna will also help pinpoint the culprit(s). Power companies are willing to co-operate if you find a hot spot since they are losing electricity and not making any money from the lost power.
Good luck. These kind of problems can be frustrating.
Those static busters work mainly for precipation static so you probably won't see much improvement if you have power line interference.

Thanks for the reply, I know that I get some of that on my north facing antenna. I did actually what you said,  I took a drive and tuned in a blank spot on the AM commercial band. I found a power line about 1/4 mile away and it's intermittent on the arcing. Possibly I'm getting it on the south facing antenna too. I don't hear any static in the early AM on both antennas however as the day progresses it starts then it comes and goes. After it rains it SOMETIMES goes away. I've read stories that Florida Power & Light doesn't care. I have a customer that was an executive with them, he retired recently, maybe I'll talk to him. Anyho will see if these static busters help on possible static buildup on the antennas, it couldn't hurt.
Speaking of antennas...I gotta put the north facing antenna back up. The feeds will be up & down AGAIN today!!
