KLAX down
« on: March 12, 2010, 03:19:08 PM »
Sorry folks, I know everyone was excited to get KLAX up again, but it looks like it went down this morning, and I have not been able to get it back up again.  It does not appear to be an Internet problem, so it will probably be a few days before I will be able to get over there to troubleshoot.

Well, it looks like something that we power-cycled was causing the problem, so the feed is back up again.  Hopefully it will stay up this time.

Enjoy!

And we are down again.  The last time, it was the wifi bridge that was the problem.  I suspect the same thing again.  Unfortunately it will remain down until we can get in on Monday morning to power cycle it again.

I think I need to find another bridge.  It looks like this TrendNet "gaming adapter" is a piece of junk.

Well, we made it back to the store tonight, so I have made a few tweaks to the system.  I think things have improved quite a bit, especially compared to what it has sounded like the last couple of days.

I set the delay on both channels, so hopefully we will be able to hear both sides of each conversation better than before (thanks go to Chananya for the tip).

I also put a command in the startup script to set the input volume, so we should have much better levels than the last couple of days.

Lastly, but probably most importantly, I put some distance between the scanner and the PC and WiFi bridge.  The bridge was responsible for a lot of the hash that we've been hearing, so I think it sounds a lot better now.

So if the bridge will just quit crashing on us, I think we will have a pretty decent KLAX feed.

Thanks for your patience!

Here is an update to the status of KLAX.

We have been going down on average once a day.  Power cycling the wifi bridge seems to take care of it, so I have ordered a Linksys bridge to replace the TrendNet, which will go back to Fry's for a refund.

Due to various issues, when it goes down, we can't always get to it right away, so unfortunately it stays down.  We will be closed for several days over the next couple of weeks, so until I get the new bridge installed, it's very possible we will see some extended downtime.

I apologize for the inconvenience, but hopefully we will get things stabilized soon.

The new bridge was installed last night.  Hopefully this will resolve the instability issues, and we will have a solid feed from here on out.
