EIDW SET UP

The EIDW stream is made up of a six element dedicated vhf outdoor antenna ...high overhead is some of the many West bound TransAtlantic flights that cross over Dublin every day.

The vhf reception equipment is the smaller receiver, sitting on top of a HF receiver ( now nearly redundant due to Daves excellent HF streaming).
The streaming is done on a SIGNAL  Airband only VHF/UHF scanner.

Very nice, are you far from dublin airport itself? Stream is very good. I live around 3 miles from cork airport but there is mountains in my way so my 'ATC' isnt great and rarely get a/c on the ground.

The site is about 20 miles from the Airport....But with no obstructions.

It cannot be repeated too often getting the antenna up as high as possible is the best way for super reception results.I notice in the case of Cork Live
that the stream has a smart looking antenna...if that were outside off the roof the results would be spectaular!!!try the attic of the house as a second best...height is everything.

Yeah, i was considering putting it in the attic, but the cable in it is rather small, it just about reaches from the landing into my bedroom, but i suppose if i either got a coaxial and BNC extension, or put the scanner in the attic aswell and had a large wire for the input to the pc.

wow, i cant believe your 20 miles from Dublin airport, and im rather close and i cant get it as good, but as you say there is no obsticles. Cork is in a valley, and the airport is on the top of the hill so..

Hi M50,

I see you have a Phillips D2999 HF. This was my first HF/SW set and I still have it covering the world of HF and for the cost it really was a good set to start with, great audio and easy to use. Just wish my JRC NRD 525 had as good a sound output.


I enjoyed listening to Dublin but must download some charts and maps so I can locate the areas mentioned.

Hi there. Yes this is a dedicated airband multi element vhf aerial.I got it  some years ago from a manufacturing operation here in Dublin .they made this equipment for the professional telecommunicatons market.
it is cut for optimal reception at about 129megs but has    a good wide band coverage.     M50

Great to see the equipment that pleasures my ears when i lsten to EIDW LIVE !!

Is there anywhere i could get like a Good Scanner (like the phillps above) but not too dear just incase i dont use it .. ? Does the Phillps have a scanner to scan different freq. at the same time ?

Nice work on the Dublin feed btw, great quality, I always listen to it, it's online everytime i look for it too! I'm setting up an eicm one for a while to give people and idea of how atc works in the regionals airports of Ireland.
