KGSO and KINT Setup
« on: December 23, 2007, 11:39:34 PM »
I currently live 2.5 miles from KGSO. I pick up all KGSO, Washington Center, and Atlanta Center. I want to purchase a new antenna for my Radio Shack Pro-528 to pick up wider radius or frequencies. I would like to pick up aircraft on the ground at KGSO better and on approach.

If you live that close, and assuming all of those transmitters are on the ground at GSO (likely), almost any outside scanner antenna will work fine.  The key is getting an antenna outside, as high and in the clear as you can manage.  Inside the house there are too many potential interference sources, your computer setup being one of the main ones.  The only caveat here is if you have overheard power lines - sometimes those can be a significant source of interference in the VHF airband (118 - 136 MHz).  It all depends on how old and/or well maintained the insulators and other hardware are.

Hope this helps - looking forward to your feed.
