Starting in April 2012, the FAA is planning on charging for the distribution of online charts, this can't happen! See: http://www.avweb.com/avwebflash/news/FAA_To_Charge_For_Online_Charts_205722-1.html

Throughout the years people, enthusiasts, students, etc, have enjoyed the liberty of being able to access charts free online. This will have a large effect on the iPad/Tablet market of apps based around charts for pilots. This would change the way free online organizations, like VATSIM or ICAO operate, having to pay for US Charts which they would normally be able to access for free. This would take a large hit on the flight enthusiast community, and would be detrimental to those who use them as their only source of charts and information.
