AAL new york- zurich emergency landing in Halifax, NS
HALIFAX — An American Airlines flight with 210 people on board has made an emergency landing in Halifax after an apparent electrical fire in a cabin washroom.
Peter Spurway, a spokesman for the Halifax International Airport Authority, says one person was taken to hospital after the plane landed safely at about 8:30 p.m. local time.
He says the passenger jet was en route to Zurich from New York City when the crew declared an emergency and diverted to Halifax.
Spurway says the fire is believed to have started in a ceiling fan in a mid-cabin washroom. The remaining passengers have left the plane safely.

There are a few snippets after the 15 minute mark on the CZQM (Moncton Ctr) feed, June 9, 2230-2300Z, but the scanner wasn't landing on that frequency very often.  A request for souls on board & remaining fuel is heard, and the controller's side of discussions as to whether it should be Halifax or another airport.

I have to set up 2 other scanners to capture all the traffic, there is a lot of oceanic inbound and outbound and the frequencies do get jammed up.
I am trying to find someone who could feed the CYHZ feed.

It was great to find the coverage out there.. thanks for providing the feeds.  Busy area at that time of day to say the least!  The Boston Center feed that covers atlantic traffic happened to be down at that time, but it sounded like they didn't declare an emergency until they were with Moncton.

Thought this was an interesting incident in light of the Swissair that ended badly..  sounds like it might have been a minor smoke problem but no chances were taken.

Had I been listening that night live, I certainly would have had flashbacks to Swissair for sure.

The traffic really gets heavy after 2200Z as the aircrafts try to find smooth altitude and get some oceanic reroutes, etc.  Thanks for listening.
