I read today about a American Airlines flight to Chicago, where they were transporting 14 doggypups. On arrival 7 had perished sadfully , but it reminded me of a BAW flight where they had put a dog in the forward cargobay which apparently was not heated, don't remember the type of airplane anymore, but with that one only the aft cargobay was heated.... what would have been the cause of this AA flight?

From what I had read, it was an issue with the temperature in the cargo bay, and AAL's policies regarding animals there. IIRC, AAL's policy is that they would not remove them from the cargo hold unless the outside temperature was 30C or above. At the time, temperature in TUL (where the plane was at) was around 28 - 29C, and the flight encountered a near 4 hour delay getting to its destination. So when they checked them, a lot of them had heat exhaustion and/or heat stroke. For a lot of them, it was already to late; those they took out and tried to help, perished later. :(
