Any Intersting New Years audio?
« on: January 01, 2010, 03:10:21 AM »
Hey everyone, happy new year! Just curious. Anyone going to post any audio clips of something interesting said about the new year? I was just listening to LAX and they had some interesting communications. Just wondering, and again, happy frickin new year! 8-)

Try either the KLAS Tower or KLAS Approach/Departure feed. With KLAS next to all the fireworks on Las Vegas Blvd, and the approach path to 19L/R parallel to it as well, you're bound to hear a ton of oohs/ahhs/good convo.

Keep in mind, that the fireworks on the Strip for the New Year is an annual thing. They started to do this shortly after I moved there in 1998. They got the idea for it (outside of every other big city outside the US) from that NYE. To ring in the year, they blew up the Hacienda Hotel/Casino, which was where the present-day Mandalay Bay is. They didn't do it for 1999, but started for Y2K. Started at Mandalay Bay, roughly 78 seconds before the new year; every 3 seconds, fireworks would go off on the roofs of every hotel casino all the way down the street, ending at the Stratosphere. When the Strat kicked off, it was the new year, and fireworks went on for 15 minutes afterwards.

They still do that to this day, and on Independence day. So there are two good times for you to tune in.
