Anyone ever listen to a scanner while flying as a PAX?

I would assume people have done this?  Is it possible.  I guess you have to find the freq and you can listen to your own pilots.  Any problems doing this with regards to flight attendants?  I assume you can put a jacket or something overtop of the scanner so people around you don't get worried/nervous
