Space Shuttle Atlantis (STS-117) stops in Omaha

about flying a 747 with a space shuttle on top of it ?

At least for this time around, the pilot did a low flying pass along the Beach area around KSC, for a lot of people have have a look.

Good video...    Does anyone know any of the particulars, or interesting facts
about flying a 747 with a space shuttle on top of it ?

If it was headed back from Edwards, why did it stop in Omaha? Does it not usually take a direct flight back?

I don't know anything real specific.  I worked it a couple of times.  I remember that it flew down below Class A airspace and it flew much slower than you would expect a 747.

Back then (waaay pre-9/11), controllers could still fly in the jump seat.  I worked him one day, and was 'jumping' to the east coast the next.  The flight I was on caught up to the shuttle near Atlanta.  We got to descend down close and get a good look at him. 

I wish I had a camera with me back then.    :-(
