Guys & Ladies,

I have a question for you or someone that can answer this for me in the next two weeks November 17th I'll be traveling from airport to airport going home back to Florida and was wondering some pilots I hear when they give the pre-flight rules they request  that the iPhones to be turned on airplane mode and some pilots want's all cell phones turned off which one do I need to do with my iPhone? I always turn it off so I won't get in trouble with the pilots or the helpers.  Also I am wanting to listen to the air traffic controllers talking to the pilots of the airplane that I'm on when I'm boarding and departing from the airport can I still listen to LiveATC while still departing to the take off area or no?

Thanks for your time.

well, you can power off completely and leave it that way from the time the cabin door closes to the time you are on a taxiway at your destination.  Or you can put it in Airplane mode initially, but still need to turn it off completely when the cabin door closes until they announce that approved electronic devices can be used.  Then you can use your iPhone as an iPod in flight.  And then again turn the phone back on when the plane is on a taxiway and they announce cell phones can be used.

Kirk,

Thank you for the reply. I'll listen to the pre-flight information from the pilot and the helper that talks on the microphone. What does a pilot actually do while talking to air traffic control?  I know he checks over the airplane before boarding happens
